India is a land of wonders and Jadav ‘Molai’ Payeng is one of those wonders. He is also known as the Forest Man of India. He got this name because he achieved the impossible feat of turning barren land into a forest. Jadav spent 30 years of his life planting around 40 million trees along a barren sandbar of the Brahmaputra River. He covered an area of 550 hectares during his plantation drive and all this he did on his own. With passing time this land changed into a forest and it was no ordinary forest, it was a man-made forest. This forest is known as Molai Kathoni, it is located in Assam’s Jorhat district. Now, this forest is home to several animals ranging from tigers to elephants and a wide variety of native and migratory birds. For this extraordinary achievement, Jadav was awarded with the Padma Shri in 2015. His talent is now being recognized even outside of India and he has been recently granted a 10-year visa by the Mexican government to make Mexico greener. Jadav Payeng is truly an inspiration for us all.
