The MMA fever is slowly gripping India as was evident in this Eighth edition of MFN – Matrix Fight Night held at Siri Fort Complex, New Delhi on 1st April 2022. This event turned out to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller with top-level fighters from India showing off their fighting skills. Well known fighters like Srikant Shekhar also known as Captain Crazy, local Delhi boy Sanjeet Budhwar, Dhruv Chaudhary, Angad Bisht and Chaitanya ‘Dangerous’ Gavali were on the stacked fight card. Open to crowds, the energy of the event was fantastic! The winner of the Main Event of MFN 8 was ‘Afghan Lion’ Abdul Azim Badakhshi. He defeated Brazil’s Fabricio Oliveira in the Featherweight category.
In addition to these fabulous fighters, Bollywood celebrities like Jackie Shroff, Ayesha Shroff, Tiger Shroff, Krishna Shroff, and Disha Patani turned the heat for the night. In fact, Ayesha and Krishna Shroff are the women behind Matrix Fight Night, the only women MMA promoters we know of! At the end of the event Vishvesh Desai, founder of MMA Syndicate India and who was one of the officials at the event was seen with Daniel Issac who is the considered to be the father of Indian MMA. Aarti Khatri, one of India’s top women MMA fighters, and Vispi Kasad who is a Master Martial Artist and Guinness World record holder were also clicked with Vishvesh Desai. This event gaining new heights of popularity is a positive sign for the future of MMA in India.
